Third Rail
Trains
rollin' through a dark, never-ending tunnel;
Can.t hear a damned thing over the wheels on the tracks.
The railroad nails are loose,
With all the rattling, the conductors just can.t relax.
Another broken-hearted girl sits alone.
She.s hopin' the southbound train will take her home;
To a place she.s never, ever known before
Before this razor leaves her body on the floor.
Trains rollin' through a dark, never-ending tunnel;
Can.t hear a damned thing over the wheels on the tracks.
The railroad nails are as loose as her mind,
With all that rattling, she tries to take her life.
Red vision blurring, she hears the train whistle
She.s not sure why it sounds so far away.
A blinding light shining through her tears;
The sound of metal crashing is all she hears.
Another hollowed-out boy sits quiet.
He.s prayin' north is where he.ll fit in;
A place he.s never really thought much of
Before this rope is all he.s hangin' from.
Trains rollin' through a dark, never-ending tunnel;
Can.t hear a damned thing over the wheels on the tracks.
The railroad nails aren.t as tight as the knot,
With all that rattling, he finds it hard not to jump.
Over his pulse, he hears the whistle of the train.
His last thought is "it.s so far away".
A light shines bright through his darkening sight;
Metal crashing, as he remembers his life.
From the wreckage, that girl and boy
Run to each other and hold on tight.
A feeling they had never known before,
Strength to carry on once more.
Trains burnin' in a dark, never-ending tunnel;
Can.t hear a damned thing over the flames on the tracks.
The railroad nails stopped shaking so hard,
They never thought they.d hold on this far.
Can.t hear a damned thing over the wheels on the tracks.
