Willow
They cut down the willow tree we knew
Where I would sit and sing;
The willow that you drew,
Where you would watch me listening to my favourite songs.
You watched me scream and smile and carve
Flashbacks or him and me into the bark upon my wrist.
Such memories, so detailed
So deep, the feelings that he left me with
And in the pond beside that willow,
You saved me from drowning in all of this.
You kissed my scars,
Repaired my heart,
And together, underneath that willow,
Is where we began and where we would restart.
Because I don't love him anymore.
They cut down the willow tree we knew
Where I would sit and write;
The willow that you drew,
Where you would draw me too
And send me notes, “Thinking of you”.
You watched me sing and cry and carve
Initials of you and me into the bark of my wrist.
Such designs, so intricate
So deep, the feelings of my love for you.
And in the Autumn, we returned,
The willow gone and flashbacks burned,
You kissed my head,
But never said..
And together, on that gone willow,
Is where we began and you kept me from dead.
Because I don't think of him anymore.
They cut down the willow tree we knew
Where I would sit and sing;
The willow that you drew,
Where you would draw us too,
And whisper to me “I'm gonna marry you”.
You watched me soar and cry and carve
Dates of you and me into the bark of that stump.
Such wonder, so fulfilling
So perfect, the feelings that come with “forever”.
They cut down the willow tree we knew,
But they could never cut me from you.
Where I would sit and sing;
The willow that you drew,
Where you would watch me listening to my favourite songs.
You watched me scream and smile and carve
Flashbacks or him and me into the bark upon my wrist.
Such memories, so detailed
